Iskra Sistemi with IPv6 at VITEL 2010

Mr. Tomo Jarc, M.Sc., from University of Ljubljana, Mr. Gasper Cotman and Mr. Uros Juvan from Iskra Sistemi delivered a speech at VITEL Symposium on April 19th. They have shown the strategy of the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 which is going on at the University of Ljubljana.

24th workshop VITEL took place at the European Convention Center at Brdo from April 19th-20th, 2010. The working title of the event was "Transition to IPv6".

Iskra Sistemi has been a long-term partner of University of Ljubljana. Through this partnership the current version of University's "Metulj" network has been designed in 2005. It enables MPLS VPN traffic through 10 Gb/s backbone with 27 faculties connected to this metropolitan network. Similar entities who are geographically dispersed can be united in VPN segments through MPLS in addition to EDURoam network which connects any European student with credentials to his/hers native network resources in their home faculty in any European city using local Wi-Fi access points.

The speech has shown the networking environment of University of Ljubljana, the reasons for transition, advantages of the new IP protocol and the steps the University will take on the way to the new environment. The speakers have also shown how the network is interconnected to Slovenian Academic Network ARNES and further on into GEANT, the European academic network.
