Telecommunication Transmission Systems for the Slovenian Railways

Experts of the Iskra Sistemi company have entered the final stage of the project of setting up telecommunication transmission system for the purposes of traffic remote control in the Slovenian Railways, a project implemented in conformance with the FIDIC international regulations. By signing the international agreement on the development of railway infrastructure and through the national railway infrastructure development programme, R Slovenia undertook to update and modernise its public railway infrastructure, in particular along the Pan-European corridor V and X routes. These two corridors passing the territory of R Slovenia, link Venice, Ljubljana, Budapest and Kiev, respectively, Salzburg, Ljubljana, Zagreb and Thessaloniki.
The SNEV project consists of five sets, three of which proved of marketing interest for Iskra Sistemi. Bidding jointly with its partner, IBE, Iskra Sistemi was awarded Set 1, which comprises remote control of traction station (ENP) and switches (VO); bidding jointly with its partner SCT, Set 2, which comprises the implementation of local remote control of traction network switches at the railway terminals, and bidding alone, Set 3, which comprises the implementation of telecommunication systems for the purposes of remote traffic control.
In the scope of the telecommunication transmission system project, Set 3, Iskra Sistemi undertook to implement, either alone or with its subcontractors, the following works: drawing up of all the project design documents, upgrading of transmission systems, synchronisation and monitoring of telecommunication systems, upgrading of telecommunication equipment power supply systems, upgrading and reconfiguration of railway terminal telecommunication systems, upgrading of registrophones, supply of measurement instruments and terminal equipment for local monitoring of telecommunication equipment, construction of cable ducting and cable links between power supply stations and telecommunication equipment rooms, implementation of cable links between the traffic office and telecommunication equipment rooms, implementation of earthing of telecommunication equipment, implementation of overvoltage protection of telecommunication equipment, arrangement of synchronisation and unification of monitoring, and the training of the authorised operator.

The technical solution if the integration of the telecommunication links of power supply stations and traction network switches into the Slovenian railway network telecommunication system is based on the application of optical cables as transmission medium and on the PDH and SDH transmission system technology. The project involves the modernisation of 72 stations within the Slovenian railway network.
