Iskra Sistemi at VITEL
Iskra Sistemi participated at the 23rd telecommunications workshop (VITEL), "Broadband Mobile Networks", which took place late last year at Brdo pri Kranju under the auspices of the Electrotechnical Association of Slovenia and the Slovenian Society for Electronic Communications.
The two-day workshop included the presentation of the paper Multiservice Background Microwave Radio by Mr. Vojko Kovič, a telecommunications expert of Iskra Sistemi. In his contribution, he demonstrated the operation of ACM (Adaptive Coding and Modulation) on a portable microwave radio device SparkWave SDR GE. In designing portable communication systems, engineers are faced by the problem of speed. The ACM procedure allows dynamic automatic adjustment of the transmission speed to the route conditions. Application of ACM in the Spark Wave SDR GE device allows notable enhancement of the utilisation of the allocated frequency spectre. In circumstances of heavy rain, the adaptive modulation ACM prevents an abrupt collapse of the radio link, but rather only gradually reduces the transmission speed. In his contribution, Vojko Kovič also presented the differences in link planning between the traditional method and the novel link planning method applying adaptive modulation ACM.
The Iskra Sistemi contribution incited a vivid interest among the experts involved in transmission operations: mobile operators, internet service providers and companies applying radio links between different sites.
